The best Apple ads

After I presented you my favourite Superbowl commercials, I’m now switching over to those published by the famous Cupertino-based company: Apple. The most valuable company in the world certainly knows how to produce great commercials. Here’s a collection of the best Apple ads that came out between 1984 and today.

1984 – Introducing the Macintosh

This commercial was first shown during the 1984 Superbowl. It was directed by nobody less than famous movie producer Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator). Its purpose was to present the original Mac. It was a revolutionary advertisement at the time, transforming commercials into small stories instead of being simple product presentations.

Goosebumps guaranteed – “Think different”

Apples “think different” slogan was originally launched in 1997. Created by the advertising agency TBWA\Chiat\Day, the slogan can be taken as a response to IBM’s slogan “Think”. It was used in the television commercial shown below as well as in several print advertisements and a number of TV promos for Apple products. Apple’s use of the slogan was discontinued with the start of the iMac G4 in 2002 but people still connect it with the company today.

Get a Mac

This advertising campaign consists of a total of 66 short funny clips. The campaign went from 2006 to 2009 and featured actors John Hodgman as PC and Justin Long as Mac. In every clip, the actors compare PC and Mac to each other in an entertaining way, obviously always making the point that the Mac is superior.

The iPod

Everyone who was born before the year 2000 should still remember this Apple ads. They featured silhouettes of people dancing to hip music, showing off the white iPod. This MP3 player not only distinguished itself from the competition with its numerous qualities (easy to use, attractive design, etc.). Also, unlike rival products, it featured white headphones, called earbuds.

The first iPhone ad

The iPhone, which was introduced in 2007, was a revolution. Although not everybody realised this at the time, it paved the way for today’s smartphones and tablets. In this first ad, the product is only briefly presented in the end, but it is still one of the more memorable Apple ads.

Perspective

This really creative brand advertisement called “perspective” illustrates the company’s key values. Instead of focussing on a precise product, it communicates the message in an artistic way.

The 2016 MacBook Pro – Bulbs

One of the newest Apple ads is introducing the all new MacBook Pro. The commercial follows Apples typical storytelling, associating their products with a revolution, with something new and extraordinary. The lightbulbs symbolise great ideas, the MacBook being the most recent one.
